York’s city walls are one of the most complete examples of city walls in England. The walls stretch 3.4km around York’s city centre, and comprise four principal gates and several smaller gates, as well as towers, interval towers, postern gates, earth ramparts and the remains of two castles. In general, the city walls walkway is an eighteenth/nineteenth century addition.
